The Grapevine: Seminars and Ginger

By Rosalyn Queen on November 18, 2014 from The Grapevine

The AARP held a seminar this past week at the Bridgeport Conference Center.  They provided information about Alzheimer's care for the patient and services for the caregivers.  Dave and I found it very informative and although we hope we will never need this information it is certainly great to have it. As most of you know our family provided care for my mother for about ten years, while she suffered with Alzheimer's.  Because there is no known cure and it cannot be diagnosed, research is a very important component of this. We have an excellent facility in Morgantown that is working on both a cure and a diagnosis.  The AARP hosted a luncheon and, as usual, Scott Duarte and the staff at the BCC did an excellent job and the food was great.

I had the opportunity to visit with Scott and he gave me a lesson in history.  It seems long ago that Queen Maragharita, who was in Naples, enlisted a local baker to make many pizzas for her to sample.  Her favorite was the Maragharita so they gave it her name "the Maragharita Pizza." So now you know the rest of the story.

I want to call your attention to two special couples who are observing special anniversaries. Joby and Jay Spatafore will be celebrating their 66th Anniversary. Dorothy Kerher and her husband Albert will also be observing a special anniversary.  Both of these couples have been very active in the community and have provided a lot of services to a lot of people. If you see them out and about be sure to wish them good wishes and another anniversary in good health.

I have read in several places that ginger is beneficial to people who suffer from knee pain. I found that 510 mg of ginger extract daily is linked to improvement in knee pain among people with osteoarthritis.

Be sure to start getting ready for Thanksgiving and try to enjoy the family getting together.  Remember to share with those who may not have family.  Take care and until next week "Now You Have Heard It through The Grapevine"
