The Grapevine: Welcome to 2015
By Rosalyn Queen on January 03, 2015 from The Grapevine
As for resolutions, at 75, I do not think that I will concentrate heavily on any. Last week, I had a doctor’s appointment and learned that I had lost a few pounds. I am sure that stress contributed to this, but I think that I may concentrate on keeping that off and losing a few more, and by the way getting rid of the stress. I also want to start walking a little and I have agreed to start back with zumba classes. I also want to make 2015 the year of friends, whether here or afar. 2014 made me realize the benefit of having friends and I intend to work harder on being a good friend. I reconnected with Judi Shellenberger this week and how great it felt to catch up and relive all the experiences we had with the Christopher Columbus Foundation. I talk frequently with Veronica Oliverio Moorman and I enjoy our reminiscing. So once a week, I plan on catching up with these friends and I have pledged to have my East View Lady friends over for lunch.
My daughter Lisa added to my collection of Danielle Steel books and her newest is Pegasus. Last week, early in the evening, I started reading and continued all night until early morning before finishing it. This is my idea of pure pleasure. You see if I do not lay the book down then I do not have to worry about forgetting the characters. A sign of "old age?" I got my sister Joan a copy of one of Steel's books and now we are ready to exchange. Dave is also reading "Unbroken" which I got him for Christmas. We hope to get to the movie this afternoon. If my memory serves me right I think I met this gentleman several years ago at a NIAF function. Here are two great things to do this winter, Reading and going to the movies.
Dave and I attended Weege Vargo's annual New Year’s Day Brunch. As usual it was great and the food was phenomenal. We look forward to it every year so that we can visit with some of our Bridgeport friends. This year I had a long conversation with Shirleen Isabella. She is a one of a kind woman. She is now heading up a campaign to raise money to expand Shepard's Corner. They are in dire need of more space. If you are interested in helping her please give her a call. Weege is also to be considered a great person. As most of you know she took such great care of her mother for many years and I truly believed she enjoyed doing it. Now she is building a new section on her home where I think she intends to move two of her elderly relatives in, so that she may look after them. A truly kind, giving person.
I was saddened to hear about the death of Mario Coumo. His wife, Maltilda, and I worked on a lot of education programs for NIAF. They truly were proud Italian Americans.
Dave and I and our family make our weekly trip to Morgantown to visit Marty. He is doing well. I was truly saddened that he could not have his yearly taste of my mushrooms in the crock, but maybe next year. I continue to worry about his calcium deficiency. We have been told that this happens to some of those individuals who have stomach bypass surgery. He has to be very careful so that he will not break any more bones. As for all of you who ask about Mike, he did complete his last chemo therapy treatment in Cleveland and will go back next month for tests. He seems to be very tired and is now battling a case of the flu or just a bad cold. Thanks to all of you who continue ask about my family and continue to pray for them. You have made this period so much easier for me. I do look around and know there are those who are facing more than I am.
A Happy and Healthy New Year to all of you! Continue to keep in touch with me at 304 842 2662 or spanishqueen86@aol.com. Until next week "Now You Have Heard It Through The Grapevine."
