Titletown Tailgate Returns for Fourth Year to Kick off New School Year, Fall Sports Season

By Chris Johnson on August 11, 2024

The fourth annual Titletown Tailgate will take place from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. on Wednesday, Aug. 14 at Wayne Jamison Field.

The event serves as kickoff for the fall sports season at BHS and the start of the new school year as well as a chance to raise funds for BHS athletics and bring the community together to rally around the Indians.

“Each year it geta a little bigger and we try to add a little bit more,” BHS Boosters President Sam Olivio said. “Last year we did close to $6,000 in sales for the event for the athletic programs.”

One new addition on tap for Wednesday is a collaboration with the BHS FFA and Agriculture Class.

“We are going to have some animals there, trying to expand a little bit,” Olivio said. The FFA class will have a small petting zoo.
“We will also have a bouncy house for the younger kids.”

Olivio also is excited for what he referred to as a unique aspect to this year’s tailgate.

“Freshman orientation is the same day at 3 p.m. at the high school,” he said. When that concludes the freshmen parents, the freshman students can just come right over to the tailgate.”

There will once again be a variety of food options and games for the high school students such as a watermelon eating contest and balloon toss.

The BHS band will kick off the official start of the program with a 7 p.m. performance and that will be followed by performances from the BHS dance line and BHS cheerleaders leading into team introductions for football, volleyball, boys soccer, girls soccer, cross country and golf.

The Voice of the Indians Travis Jones will once again serve as emcee for the event.

I’m always excited for this and the kids always have a great time,” Olivio said.
