It’s been neck in neck between Ford Funeral Home and Bridgeport Physical Therapy, but Ford Funeral Home pulled out the popular vote in the ABB Scarecrow Contest. Its likeness of “Phil Dye the Fire Guy,” a popular local personality and former city fireman, edged out Bridgeport Physical Therapy’s skeleton Barbie. Vote totals were 2268 and 2099, respectively. Winding up in third place was Della’s Deli’s sunflower-themed scarecrow with 656 votes.
Ford Funeral Home will be awarded the traveling plaque to be displayed at the business until the conclusion of the 2024 contest. The presentation will take place at Light Up Night, scheduled for Thurs., Nov. 30.
A total of 7,890 votes were cast during the contest which began Oct. 6. The ABB and Connect-Bridgeport sends appreciation to everyone who participated in voting this year.
In the judges’ choice awards, Bridgeport Parks and Recreation claimed first place, followed by Landmark Realty and the City of Bridgeport. Bridgeport Parks and Recreation will also receive a plaque at Light Up Night to display until next year's contest.
Bridgeport Parks and Recreation’s display featured the Titanic. Landmark Realty’s scarecrow featured a Mario Brothers theme while the City of Bridgeport scarecrow was the likeness of a Barbie policewoman.
The winners will remain on display this week.
