It's Happening: Morgan Wallen Show at Clarksburg Amp Worth the Wait

By Julie Perine on August 11, 2019

From expected tunes like “Whiskey Glasses” and “The Way I Talk” to old-school rock surprise snippets of Bon Jovi’s “You Give Love a Bad Name” and Def Leppard’s “Pour Some Sugar on Me,” Morgan Wallen’s Aug. 4 concert at Clarksburg Amphitheater was a crowd pleaser.

Wallen delivered with his suave country-style vocals attired in his signature flannel and sporting what might be the comeback of the mullet. The Tennessee-born son of a preacher complimented his performance with some southern hospitality a heart-felt apology.

He said he was sincerely sorry he had to cancel the original show, which was scheduled for June 8 at The Amp. The artist had fallen ill and wasn’t able to perform. It was a first, Wallen said, and he vowed to give his fans a time to remember.

He did.

“It was so awesome of him to come back. It was definitely worth the wait!” said Alyssa Dent.

Wallen’s interaction with the crowd made the show so much fun, she said.

“You could tell how much he loves to play music and entertain his fans, so that made it even more enjoyable to watch him and sing along,” Dent said. “My favorites were ‘Cover Me Up,’ ‘Whiskey Glasses,’ and, of course, ‘Country Roads’ which was an awesome surprise and so much fun!”

Angela and Joe Messe attended the show with their sons Joshua and Connor, as well as several friends.

“Morgan Wallen put on a high-energy show,” Angela Messe said. “It was fun tailgating with everyone before the show and the boys both talked with him at the meet and greet and said he was so friendly, personable and down to earth.”

Messe said although her sons aren’t die-hard country fans, they loved Wallen’s style of music and had no trouble getting into his music, even singing along.
Joe Messe left the show even a bigger fan than before. He won a drawing held at the concert – winning an autographed guitar.

Fans said the show brought a constant flow of music, meshing originals and covers by other entertainers, including fellow country artist Jason Aldean. After serenading fans with Aldean’s “You Make it Easy,” Wallen picked up the pace with the 70s rock medley. The concert, which opened with the music of Sean Stemaly, concluded with one of Wallen’s earliest hit singles, “Up Down.”
