Chicken Banquet Update: BHS FFA Chapter invites you to the Chicken Banquet and Auction Monday 3/27/23 at 6pm. Due to the perishable nature of both the food and auction items, this event will still continue as planned even though school was cancelled in Harrison County. We hope to see you there!

Editor's Note: Connect-Bridgeport would like to welcome this new blog by The Bridgeport FFA (Future Farmers of America) Chapter by member Miyah Swiger and other guest writers.Through the blog, the students will be sharing news of their chapter and even some growing tips for readers. Today's focus is their boiler hen raising project and associated upcoming event.

The Bridgeport FFA Chapter would like to invite the community to our chicken auction and dinner on March 27, 2023, from 6-8pm at Bridgeport High School. There will be a $10 entry fee and enough meals for the first 100 people. Our event will start off with a chicken dinner at 6 p.m., where we will have a variety of chicken entrees and side dishes. If you cannot make it to the dinner, no worries. We will be having a live auction at 7:15 p.m., where the processed chickens that the animal production class raised will be auctioned off! Throughout the evening, there will be a multitude of games and activities for children. There will also be student representatives discussing their experience raising these broiler hens.

Our animal production class has raised these chickens for the last six weeks and learned how to humanely harvest them. Not only have they spent their class time preparing the chickens for harvesting, but they have also learned about different types of feed. Students collected data to see which feed increases the chicken’s growth rate the most. The class has learned a lot about the chicken raising and harvesting process as well as the nutritional needs of chickens. They would be honored to have you bid on their chickens at the auction and help them to raise money for the Bridgeport FFA Chapter and Agriculture classes at BHS.

As we are a growing chapter, we are trying to get to know our community, and we could use your support! All money raised at this event will go back to the Bridgeport FFA Chapter and BHS Agriculture classes. We hope to see you there!
