City Faces in Different Places

By Julie Perine on April 18, 2021 from City Faces

Today's Bridgeport City face is lifelong Bridgeport resident Debbie Hooper Kinney. Meet her here!

How long have you lived in Bridgeport? If not a lifelong resident, tell me what brought you here.
I've lived here forever. I grew up at Maple Lake.

Tell me about your family ...
I'm married to my high school sweetheart and we have two adult children and three grandchildren, all in this local area with all of us being Bridgeport High School graduates except the youngest — Roll Tribe!!

What about pets?
Orea is our Border Collie mix rescue dog, 12 years old.

Where do you work and what do you do there?
I’m in my 11th year with Bridgeport Middle School, serving as part-time secretary for the past six years.

What are your hobbies/favorite past times?
I love quiet time/devotionals with the Lord; I like to walk; I like to read.
My family loves Bridgeport sports .

Favorite Bridgeport spot?
Home

What do you like about Bridgeport … why is this a good place to live?
Bridgeport is basically all I’ve known and loved especially because of its “small-town” atmosphere and people. The city provides wonderful opportunities for family events, like Light Up Nite and National Night Out and the street-wide events at the beginning of the summer season (when not in Covid-mode). We have The Bridge Indoor Sports Complex and Recreation Complex. I enjoy our parks system. Our schools are wonderful due to the care and support of the teachers and staff.  I could go on, but will leave the rest up to everyone’s own imagination.

One – or more – of your favorite memories of something that took place in Bridgeport ...
Bridgeport Fireman’s Fair, by far. (I was a princess one year...many, many moons ago.)

What is your favorite WV spot outside of Bridgeport?
Too many to think about.

How about your favorite place outside of WV?
Can’t think of one particular area.

What are some of your favorite things?
Family gatherings. I have a wonderful immediate and extended family unit.

Food/restaurant?
Oliverio’s; Panera; Muriale’s. I’m also a coffee-holic.

Favorite color?
Blue

Music genre/artist?
Contemporary Christian

What is your best childhood memory?
Summers growing up at Maple Lake...always something to do. We hardly ever went into “town” as we had everything we needed. Of course, we did make some trips to the Dairy Queen.

Winters were spent sled riding and, of course, ice skating.

Interesting fact about you and/or something you would like to add…
Not much to tell...I love life and am grateful for the many blessings that the good Lord has given me and my family. I am looking forward to retirement at the end of this school year and catching up on some traveling with my husband, Jim, aka “KeeWee.”
