City Faces in Different Places

By Julie Perine on October 17, 2021 from City Faces

Meet this week's Bridgeport City Face, Becky Hollar.

How long have you lived in Bridgeport?
We have lived in Bridgeport since 1972 when we purchased our first home.

Tell us about your family …
I have been married to my husband Bennie for 54 years. We have three sons: Bart, Brett (Aron) and Brad (Stacy)
We have nine grandchildren:
Katelyn, Bryan, Ashley (Patrick), Bethany (Brandon), Rylie (Michael), Robbie, Evan, Maddisyn and Emily.
Our two great-grandsons are Emmett and Liam and we are anxiously awaiting great-grandson No. 3, Sterling, in December
My family also includes my sister, Linda, and my 96-year-young mother, Virginia.

Do you have pets?
Yes, our 12-year-old mixed rescue dog, Sandy.

What is/was your career?
I worked as a Rural Letter Carrier at Bridgeport Post Office. I retired in 2013 with 31 years of service.

What are your hobbies/favorite past times?
A good book, shopping online, cooking and baking - specially for the holidays - and lunch with my best friend.

What is your favorite spot in Bridgeport?
It’s hard to choose just one but I would say our city parks are high on the list. Our kids, grandkids and great-grandsons have all spent a lot of time at the parks.

What do you like most about Bridgeport?
Bridgeport has that smalltown, family feel that you don’t find everywhere and that hasn’t changed over the years we’ve been here. It’s a wonderful place to raise a family.

What are some of your best memories that took place here in our city?
Our boys playing sports and marching in the band, working the concession stand for home games, the homecoming and Christmas parades and so much more.

What’s your favorite spot outside of Bridgeport?
Our cabin in Tucker County.

What is your favorite spot outside of WV?
We love to travel, so this is a tough one for me. I love the southwest. Also, Charleston, SC and Savannah, Ga. are two of my favorite cities to visit.

What are some of your favorite things?
Spending time with our family, traveling, going to all the grandkids’ activities - cheerleading, football, pageants, dance line. Whatever they do, we try to be there.

Favorite restaurant?
Twin Oaks, T&L and El Ricon

Favorite color?
Yellow is my favorite color.

Favorite music?
I love all kinds of music. I like Classic 60’s, Motown and I’m very partial to Gospel and
Christian music. I especially enjoy JP Miller and I’m a big Tom Petty fan. When it comes to music, I like it all!
What are your favorite childhood memories?
Family vacations with my parents and sister, walking to my grandparents’ house and Friday night dances at the Y.

Other interesting facts about you?
I have collected owls for 40-plus years, and I enjoy going to Mecum Car Auctions.
