Light Up Our City Contest Submissions are Rolling in for Chance at $500 Prize

By Julie Perine on December 07, 2024

The City of Bridgeport gets a little brighter every day as residents deck the halls; their homes aglow with Christmas lights.
Already, there’s a little friendly competition going on.

Sponsored by the Associated Businesses of Bridgeport, the Greater Bridgeport Convention & Visitors Bureau and Bridgeport Card My Yard, the Light Up Our City contest is happening for the fifth year.

Those interested in earning a weekly “Sleighed It” yard sign and ultimately a chance at winning $500 can send an email to Julie@connect-bridgeport.com. Please reference “Light Up Our City,” include your address and a photo of your home lit up in holiday style.

The deadline for signing up is Dec. 15. Thereafter, judges will drive by those homes and choose weekly winners and the week of Christmas, the overall winner will be named.

The contest started in 2020 as a fun activity. The Covid pandemic was in full swing and Light Up Night was set in in drive-by fashion. The ABB wanted to expand upon that event and that’s how the contest began. That year, a map was created so folks could drive around and see those homes. Card My Yard added an extra element of fun by putting letters along the route and challenging residents to use those letters to solve the mystery holiday phrase. The map continued for a few years but will not be part of this year’s contest. There are just so many beautifully decorated homes throughout the city; many which aren’t entered into the contest.

Regardless of your decorating style, consider getting in on the competitive action and showing off your skills.

Pictured are a few of this year's submissions. Look for a gallery coming soon. Keep those emails coming!
