Frankie's Furry Friends: Meet Kane, Humane Society of Harrison County Pet of the Month

By Frankie Michelle Dennison on March 06, 2025 from Frankie's Furry Friends

A two-year-old mixed-breed dog, Kane is the Pet of the Month at the Humane Society of Harrison County. His shelter intake was Jan. 9. He has been at the shelter for 54 days.

Kane is good with cats, weighs 51 pounds, is neutered and microchipped. He is up to date on all vaccines and dewormer. He is 4DX tested and was negative.

Kane’s adoption fee is $175.

Pet adoption is simple. You can print an application HERE, complete and return it via email to director@hshcwv.org. You can also stop at shelter, located at 2450 Saltwell Road, Shinnston, and fill out an application for adoption.

We cannot promise that we will process the application the same day, so emailing is the best method.  Once we process the application, we can set up a meet and greet - especially if you have other dogs. If it seems like a match, we can set you up for adoption. Or we can set up a foster trial if the animal is over six months of age, and that foster has five to seven days to decide if that animal is the right match.

Our adoption fees cover the first years’ worth of vaccines including parvo/distemper, Bordetella (Kennel cough), and rabies vaccine. It also covers the first month of deworming. It covers the spay/neuter when of age, as well as a microchip. If it's a cat, we test for feline aids/leukemia, and if it is a dog, we test for 4DX which is heartworm/Lyme.

Our dog runs are currently full with 16 dogs in our care. We are currently low on cats, but kitten season is right around the corner, so we will be full on them soon as well.

Members of the public can best support the Humane Society through donations, whether physical - Purina brand food products, cat litter, bleach and any other cleaning items. Monetary is also always appreciated as we must vaccinate, feed, and house these animals until they find their homes.

You can call the Humane Society at 304-592-1600.
