Healthy Kids First: VIDEO Interview on Autism, ADHD, and Kids Health

By Mandy Curry on May 11, 2013 from Healthy Kids First

For the next few months I’ll be featuring moms or experts in health and wellness that all have ties to Bridgeport.  This first interview series is one that I’ve been waiting on for many years, as I interview Carrie Cather Fick.  Carrie and I date our friendship back to the late 1980’s and were a part of the BHS graduating class of 1994.   In those days, our conversations centered around boys, band, and college prep.  Today our conversations are a little more complex as we talk about fermenting food, the gut, ADHD, and autism.

Carrie’s oldest son was diagnosed with autism four years ago and she has since made it her life’s work to figure out what caused his development of autism and cure it if she can.  She studies this subject as intently as someone getting her Doctorate.  We share a similar passion for raising healthy kids, so naturally I’m excited to share her knowledge with you.

Whether you are impacted by Autism or ADHD, you likely know someone that is.

Today, 1 in 88 American children have some form of autism spectrum disorder.  Add to that the 6.4 million children diagnosed with ADHD at some point in their lives.  Why is this happening and how could Autism and ADHD be related? You'll soon find out.
During this interview, we found ourselves talking about:
  • Why the first 2 months of a baby's life are crucial in setting the tone for your child's overall health.
  • Signs to look for in autistic children.
  • The impact a child's diet has on Autism, ADHD, and Celiacs.
  • Why gluten and dairy can have the same effects as an opiate drug on a child with a leaky gut.
  • What common items contribute to metals and toxins in all kids' bodies.
  • Hand sanitizers, antibacterial soaps, air fresheners, cleaners, pots/pans, plastics.  You'll learn which ones are good and which to stay away from.
  • 3 tips for kids health.
