Associated Businesses of Bridgeport Sets Dates for 2025 Events

By Julie Perine on January 22, 2025

The Associated Businesses of Bridgeport board met on Thurs., Jan. 16 at the Benedum Civic Center to recap the 2024 Light Up Night and to  plan for the coming year.

"The ABB is in full swing planning our 2025 activities," said ABB President Jaclyn Rominger. "Light Up Night continues to be our biggest event of the year, so we are making plans to expand Summer Kickoff and other events throughout the year."

The ABB Summer Kickoff will be held from 5 to 8 p.m. on Sat., May 31 in downtown Bridgeport. As aways, Main Street will be closed for the event, which will feature live music, seasonal contests, a beach ball drop, children’s activities, and area food trucks. New to the 2024 event was a pie baking contest, which will continue this year.

Moving into the fall season, the ABB Scarecrow Display/Contest will be held Oct. 5-31. Any business with an ABB membership is invited to design and post a scarecrow on the city light post which will be assigned after registering for the event. Voting will be available on Connect-Bridgeport. In addition to the people’s choice award, a judges’ choice will be announced with impartial ABB business owners serving as judges.

New in 2024 was Trick or Treat with the Scarecrows which will continue in 2025. To be held the evening of Sunday, Oct. 26, the event will be held in conjunction with a party at the Benedum Civic Center which will include refreshments and seasonal activities.

"Last year we had great success with our first annual Trick or Treat with the Scarecrows in downtown Bridgeport and we are currently brainstorming some additional ideas for this year," Rominger said.

The 21st Annual Light Up Night will be held Thurs., Dec. 4 on Main Street. Again, traffic will be closed during the 6-8 p.m. event. ABB member businesses will set up canopies and hand out free treats and novelties. Live entertainment, tree lighting and fireworks will all be part of festivities.

Light Up Our City will also continue into 2025 with some added flair.

"Our goal as the ABB board is to bring family friendly events to the community and we are open to any suggestions from the residents of Bridgeport," Rominger said.

Mark your calendars for these upcoming events and look for more details to follow here on Connect-Bridgeport.
