BHS, BMS Strings Students Perform at WVMEA Conference in Charleston

Bridgeport Middle School and Bridgeport High School strings students performed at this past weekend’s West Virginia Music Education Association Conference in Charleston.
 
The following BMS students were members of the Inaugural Middle School All-State Orchestra:
Laiken Cook, violin
Sophia Gorby, viola
Lilah Kimble, violin
Katy Klenk, violin
Maria Lacaria, violin
Sam Stauffer, cello
Braden Zannino, cello
 
These students rehearsed all day Thursday and Friday at Christ Church United Methodist in Charleston.  Following rehearsals, students performed a concert that included the following music selections: Farandole from L’Arlesienne Suite No. 2 by Georges Bizet, Jupiter from The Planets, Op. 32 by Gustav Holst, O Waly Waly from the Suite for Strings by John Rutter, and Mountain Chase by Alan Lee Silva.
 
The following BHS students were members of the High School All-State Orchestra:
Maggie Lohmann, violin
Mackenzie Steele, viola
 
These students rehearsed at the Charleston Civic Center all day Thursday and Friday and performed a concert Saturday afternoon at the Charleston Municipal Auditorium.  Music selections were: Bloom by Steven Bryant, Hunab Ku Op. 18 No. 4 12.21.2012 by Mihai Popean, Symphony No. 2 by Alexander Borodine, and Nabucco Overture by Giuseppe Verdi.
 
"These dedicated students, along with their love of music and their great talent, have worked hard to achieve this great honor," said Tricia Price, strings teacher. "All-State Orchestra is the state championship for strings in West Virginia. They made the team. They are orchestra all-stars and  I’m so proud of them!"
