Clarksburg's Blake Meighen of RCB Selected from 62 Students to Earn $40,000, Four-Year D&E Scholarship

By Connect-Bridgeport Staff on July 21, 2021

Blake Meighen of Clarksburg has been awarded a $10,000 per year scholarship for a total of $40,000 over four years to Davis & Elkins College after participating in Senator Leadership & Scholarship Day. Meighen, a graduate of Robert C. Byrd High School, was selected from a group of the 62 highest achieving high school seniors who are among hundreds of students accepted to attend D&E this fall.

Meighen is the son of Chris and Laurie Meighen of Clarksburg. At Robert C. Byrd High School, Meighen was active in student council and Fellowship of Christian Athletes. He was selected as member of the National Honor Society and as a representative for IBelieve and Rotary Youth Leadership Awakening. As a student-athlete, Meighen played soccer and basketball. He is also a member of the Nutter Fort Golden Eagles 4-H Club.

At D&E, Meighen plans to major in business.

To be eligible to compete for a Leadership Scholarship, students must have at least a 3.0 GPA. Students were also required to submit a list of outstanding leadership honors or awards they have received and describe three skills that have strengthened them as a leader.

Students vying for the scholarships participated in interviews and submitted an essay of no more than 500 words consisting of a personal statement outlining their interests, life experiences, goals and commitment to leadership.
