DHHR Reports 442 New COVID Cases; Harrison County's Active Cases at 74; State Deaths at 7,370

By Connect-Bridgeport Staff on September 20, 2022

The West Virginia Department of Health and Human Resources is reporting as of this morning (Tuesday, Sept.20) the total number of  COVID-19 cases has increased to 596,709 with an increase of 442 new cases since the last update.

Tuesday's report shows the percentage of positive cases vs. tests given is 8.55 percent. The daily percent positive is at 11.12.

According to the DHHR website, Harrison County's numbers are at 24,183 (16,057 confirmed and 8,126 probable). Harrison County's active cases are at 74. There have been 23,842 recoveries and 267 deaths.

Please note that delays may be experienced with the reporting of information from the local health department to DHHR. As case surveillance continues at the local health department level, it may reveal that those tested in a certain county may not be a resident of that county, or even the state as an individual in question may have crossed the state border to be tested.

The state's cumulative number of COVID-releated deaths is at 7,370, with an increase of three from the previous report.

DHHR has confirmed the deaths of an 88-year old male from Berkeley County, a 46-year old male from Marshall County, and a 70-year old male from Grant County.

“The loss of West Virginians weighs heavily on all of us, with the greatest sadness borne by family and friends,” said Bill J. Crouch, DHHR Cabinet Secretary. “We must keep the health of our neighbors and friends in mind through vaccination and booster shots.”

There are 1,782 active cases and there have been 587,557 recoveries.

According to the DHHR site, as of Sept. 19, there are 298 hospitalizations with 49 patients in ICUs and 18 on ventilators.
