DHHR Reports 461 New COVID Cases; Harrison County's Active Cases at 78; State Deaths at 7,382

By Connect-Bridgeport Staff on September 22, 2022

The West Virginia Department of Health and Human Resources is reporting as of this morning (Thursday, Sept.22) the total number of  COVID-19 cases has increased to 597,764 with an increase of 461 new cases since the last update.

Thursday's report shows the percentage of positive cases vs. tests given is 8.56 percent. The daily percent positive is at 7.06.

According to the DHHR website, Harrison County's numbers are at 24,237 (16,084 confirmed and 8,153 probable). Harrison County's active cases are at 78. There have been 23,892 recoveries and 267 deaths.

Please note that delays may be experienced with the reporting of information from the local health department to DHHR. As case surveillance continues at the local health department level, it may reveal that those tested in a certain county may not be a resident of that county, or even the state as an individual in question may have crossed the state border to be tested.

The state's cumulative number of COVID-releated deaths is at 7,382, with an increase of three from the previous report.

DHHR has confirmed the deaths of a 72-year old male from Kanawha County, a 66-year old male from Monongalia County, and a 90-year old female from Berkeley County.

“Every life lost leaves a hole in a family, a community, and our state,” said Bill J. Crouch, DHHR Cabinet Secretary. “We offer our deepest sympathies to all who are mourning a loved one and encourage West Virginians to stay up to date on COVID-19 vaccines and boosters.”

There are 1,659 active cases and there have been 588,723 recoveries.

According to the DHHR site, as of Sept. 20, there are 287 hospitalizations with 40 patients in ICUs and 14 on ventilators.
