GFWC Woman's Club Holds May Meeting, Installs New Members and Announces Statewide Awards

The GFWC Woman’s Club of Bridgeport held its monthly meeting and annual spring dinner at Best Western Plus on May 11. Several club members, husbands and other guests were in attendance. Providing entertainment was the Bridgeport Jug Band (pictured below.)
 
In addition to business formalities, new club members were installed and state awards were announced. New members are Dorothy Sandy, Nicole Farrell and Hilary Blankenship. New members are pictured with their club sponsors and membership chairs Patty Coburn and Carol Rogers.

The club earned the following awards at the annual state conference held in March at the Greenbrier. The awards are for activities during 2016.
Arts Community Service: 3rd Place (Tie with Weirton)
 
Conservation Community Service: 3rd place
Education: HOBY participation award
Home Life Community Service: 2nd place
International Outreach Community Service: 2nd place
International Outreach Partnership: 1st place
GFWC Signature Project - Domestic Abuse: 3rd place
GFWC Legislation and Public Policy: 3rd place
Communications and Public Relations: 1st place, best overall, regardless of club size
GFWC Leadership Advancement program: 1st place, best overall, regardless of club size
 
Maxine Scarbro Leadership Award Plaque
Membership Inter-club activities:  2nd place
 
President's Special Project "Feed Our Future:” 1st place
Fundraising - 1st place and best overall, regardless of club size
GFWC Scholarship Fund: 1st place
GFWC WV Endowment Fund: 1st place
Pearl Buck - 1st place, best overall, regardless of club size
 
GFWC Writing Contest – Short Stories
1st place Morgan Sprouse, 6th grade "Ellis in Wonderland" (6, 7, & 8- Category 3)
2nd place Aleesia Aley, 10th grade "Content" (Category 4)
1st place Claire Lohman, 10th grade "Enjoying New Creations" (Category 4)
 
Poetry
1st place Aaron Ramsey, "An Ode to Cam Newton" 7th Grade, Category 3
 
GFWC Woman's Club of Bridgeport will not hold meetings during the summer months and will reconvene monthly beginning in September. Those who are interested in joining the club can contact any club member.
