Mountain Mama Magick is Joined by The Muse Effect and Moon's Aura

By Julie Perine on August 03, 2024

Located along East Main Street, Mountain Mama Magick has two new tenants; both who tie in perfectly with the holistic atmosphere already created, said owner Whitney Oliverio.

Now located inside the building which also houses SunmoonApparel, are The Muse Effect, owned by Casey Maxwell, and Moon’s Aura, owned by Jessica White.

“Not only is Casey certified in different healing techniques and a gifted medium, but her art has also been a part of this shop since the beginning when she painted the beautiful entryway to the shop,” Oliverio said. “It’s only right that she brought her tattoo studio to the space.”

Maxwell is certified in different holistic practices; reflexology and Reiki to name a couple. Having grown up in the area, she lived and worked out west for a decade, further honing her specialties. She didn’t seek out the tattoo artistry; rather it found her. A friend approached her, wanting to teach her because of her solid artistic background. She obliged and found yet another specialty.

“Art is a way for me to inspire people, and the tattoo studio has taken over and become my primary business,” Maxwell said. “But I still do everything and it all ties into Whitney’s business. Everything ties into and feeds off each other.”

Her customers seem to lean toward sentimental and botanical-based designs, but Maxwell also works with them to create one-of-a-kind personal designs. She also does tattoo cover-ups.

Blending art and working energy and allowing her to be present with others, her work is rewarding.

“It’s really important for me as an artist to stand in my own powers which speak to a community of people who may struggle to place them out there creatively. I want that to be inspiration to others.”

Owner of Moon’s Aura, Jessica White said as far back as she can remember, she has been drawn to all things nature.

“Growing up, my papaw taught me how to love and respect all things that the earth gave,” she said. “As I got older, life happened, and I lost touch with a large part of it all. When I became a mother, I began looking at other ways to heal and fix common ailments for my family, using nature first.”

During a difficult, traumatic time in her life, White said she was tasked with finding a creative outlet.

“I decided to combine my passion for nature with my drive to give my family a healthier way of life and that’s when Moon’s Aura was born,” she said.

Her business offers personal care and cosmetic products as well as others made-in-house. All of her products utilize the power of nature to cultivate inner and outer radiance and embrace authenticity.

“I am open to taking custom orders for soaps, balms or salves, and scrubs, etc.,” she said. All products are organic and free from harsh chemicals.

White said helping others heal themselves makes her happy, but it is rewarding in other ways, too.

“When I was just doing this for my friends and family, I had realized it wasn’t only healing myself and others on the outside but also healing me on the inside by giving me a sense of purpose that was more than just being a mother,” she said.

She and Oliverio have been friends for a couple of decades and they share similar interests and passions.

“Since I opened my business, Jessica has been here working behind the scenes and volunteering her time at shop events al while honing her own craft of creating organic, plant-based body products, herb blending and natural healing," Oliverio said. “We have the same vision of community and sisterhood and believe in sharing our gifts while learning from each other. She is my spiritual sister and I know she is going to help this area’s residents with anything they need.”

Mountain Mama Magick also continues to grow and draw customers. Oliverio's items feature everything from hand-poured soy-wax candles, cooking aids, and herbs to books, crystals, and jewelry. She also offers holistic healing like reiki and crystal therapy.

Among best sellers of the combined stores are herb bundles, tumbled crystals, jewelry, and apothecary items," Oliverio said.

The trio of businesses are open 12-5:30 p.m. Tuesday and Thursday and 12-6 p.m. Wednesday, Friday and Saturday. They are located at 202 East Main Street, Bridgeport.

Abundant Mother Medicine Garden & Herbal Apothecary used to be located inside Mountain Mama Magick but that business, owned by Sara Rose Scudere, has not relocated to Shinnston.
