Off the Shelf: Halloween Events on Tap for Library

By Sharon Saye on October 16, 2019 from Off the Shelf

Halloween events are on the schedule for the next two weeks.  So please mark your calendar so you don’t miss them.  Details can be found in the handouts available at both circulation desks and on the library’s website.

Adults can participate in a Mystery Walk on Monday, October 21st at 2:30 p.m.  Just meet at the Bridgeport City Park to explore the haunted park and read “The Raven” by Edgar Allen Poe; you need to solve clues to make your way out of the park.  Registration is required.

Continuing the theme will be the “Murder at Poe’s Raven Party" on Thursday, October 24th at noon.  This is the library’s fourth annual event to catch a (fictitious) killer.  Ten to eighteen participants, members of Tea & Talk, and Read in Red, have pre-assigned roles.  All are welcome to attend and enjoy the featured amateur acting and homemade three course lunch.  Registration is required.

The library’s mystery book club, Read in Red, will be discussing “If She Knew” by Blake Pierce on Friday, October 25th at noon.  Please see Tyler to borrow a copy of the book.

Kids will enjoy the Spooky Story Walk on Thursday, October 17th at 6 p.m.  Participants will meet at the Bridgeport City Park and read “Halloween Night” by Margorie Dennis Murray.  Please come dressed in your Halloween costume.  Registration is required.  This event is for children between the ages of 4 and 12.

Kids’ Movie night will be showing “Toy Story 4” on Friday, October 18th at 6 p.m.  Woody, Buzz and the rest of the gang embark on a road trip with Bonnie which leads to a reunion with long-lost friend Bo Peep.  Registration is required; this program is for children between the ages of four and twelve.  Pizza and refreshments will be provided.

Story Hour is an early literacy program for children under the age of three and occurs every Friday at 10:30 a.m.  The annual Halloween party is scheduled for October 25th.  The best part (for the staff) is the parade through the library of all the children in their costumes.
