Off the Shelf: Library Adds New Service and Preps for Two More

By Sharon Saye on May 01, 2019 from Off the Shelf

The library has added a new service for fans of audiobooks and eBooks called Axis 360.  It is another means of access to digital content; since there is so much demand for bestselling titles, the library in partnership with the Marion County Public Library is offering this new platform that emphasizes best-sellers and genre fiction such as mysteries and romances.

Users can enjoy titles across computers, laptops, tablets and smartphones.  Axis 360 can be reached through the icon on the library’s website, http://www2.youseemore.com/bridgeport.  It requires a valid library card to check out materials.

Another service that the library has just made available once again in partnership with the Marion County Public Library is a shared catalog.  Patrons with cards at Bridgeport or Marion County can now see books and materials available at both libraries.  All you need is a valid library card to place holds on materials at either library.  This way a Bridgeport resident can place a hold on a new DVD or book and be notified by email when it is available.  They can also request a book from Marion County that Bridgeport does not have, and it will be delivered by courier the following Monday or Thursday.  When the library orders a new book or DVD that has not yet been published, patrons can place holds in advance by using the catalog.  Access to the catalog is available on the library’s webpage.

This service has been in effect for only a few weeks while we work out the kinks, but already bestsellers as well as children’s books, vegan cookbooks, homesteading books, mysteries, science fiction and DVDs are traveling up and down Interstate 79 between the libraries.  This greatly expands the materials available at each library and presents a path to expanding resources while minimizing costs. All you need is a valid library card from either Bridgeport or Marion County.

And coming in the next few weeks are two new services.  Acorn TV gives lovers of British television access to numerous favorite shows and Qello opens a world of concert videos to fans of all type of music.  Just keep your eye open for these services under the RB Digital icon at the bottom of our website, right next to the one for Axis 360.
