Bridgeport Parks and Recreation to Host Summer Arts Camp for Kids

By Julie Perine on August 07, 2020

After a successful first run, Bridgeport Parks and Recreation is hosting a second week-long art camp for kids.

“We had a good turnout for our first one and with the pushback of the start of school, we have time in August to offer another,” said Bridgeport Recreation Coordinator Katie Squires.

Classes will be held August 24-27 from 9 a.m.-noon at the Benedum Civic Center. Cost is $100 for the week. Squires said the art camp is open to children ages 8-14 and the projects should be quite appealing.

"The theme for the week is ‘Fairies & Gnomes,’” she said. “Participants will complete two paintings and spend two days building their own fairy house.”

Marsha Greathouse, who has taught art classes for both children and adults this summer, will serve as the instructor.

"I can't wait to s how the kids how to paint fairy houses, make accessories from scraps of wood, make wind chimes from old earrings and so many other ideas," Greathouse said.

Working with children is one of the greatest joys of being an art instructor.

"They are so funny! You never know what they are going to say," she said. "They always love their art and I love to give them the opportunity to express themselves."

All materials for the upcoming art camp will be supplied and are included in the camp fee.

To sign up, call Bridgeport Parks and Recreation at 304-842-8240.
