78th Annual Victory Awards Dinner Coming to Bridgeport; BHS Has Trio of Honorees

Tickets are now on sale for the 78th annual Victory Awards Dinner.
 
 The nation's oldest statewide sports fete is sponsored by the 92-year-old West Virginia Sports Writers Association and will be held on May 4 at the Bridgeport Conference Center.
 
 The event is open to the public and honors statewide award winners by the WVSWA and inducts new members into the West Virginia Sports Hall of Fame. This year's inductee is record-setting college football coach Nick Saban.
 
 The award winners include:
 
 Van Meter Award (High School Coach of Year)--Dave Marshall, Bridgeport boys basketball.
 
 Morehouse Award (Sports Journalism)--John Antonik, West Virginia U.
 
 Kennedy Award (Football Player of Year)--Koi Fagan, Martinsburg.
 
 Sam Huff Award/Howley Award (Defensive Player; Top Linebacker)--Anthony Flores.
 
 Evans Award (Boys Basketball Player of Year)--Eli Sancomb, Wheeling Central.
 
 Ostrowski Award (Girls Basketball Player of Year)--Alexis Bordas, Wheeling Park.
 
 Dutton Award (Wrestler of Year)--Brock Kehler, University.
 
 Lowery Award (Baseball Player of Year)--Carson Boober, Martinsburg.
 
 McCoy Male Track Athlete of Year--Ty Steorts, Hurricane.
 
 McCoy Female Track Athlete of Year--Alyssa Sauro, Williamstown.
 
 Doug Huff Award (Leadership, Heart, Hustle)--Jameson Maynard, Wheeling Park.
 
 Softball Player of Year--Laila Varney, Herbert Hoover.
 
 Volleyball Player of Year--Myleigh Smell, Bridgeport.
 
 Boys Soccer Player of Year--Coby Dillon, Woodrow Wilson.
 
 Girls Soccer Player of Year--Mia Lough, Charleston Catholic.
 
 Stydahar Award (Top Football Lineman)--Wes Brown, Bridgeport.
 
 House Award (Top Quarterback)--Dane Hatfield, Herbert Hoover.
 
 Warner Award (Top Running Back)--Brennan Wack, Wheeling Park.
 
 Moss Award (Top Receiver)--Malachi Thompson, Nitro.
 
 Lee Award (Top Defensive Back)--Zah Jackson, Huntington.
 
 Walker Award (Top Special Teams)--Jordan Price, Huntington.
 
 Kennedy Scholarships--Conner Lambert, Wahama; Noah Vellaithambi, Hurricane.
 
 The final two awards will be announced next week--the Furfari Award for College Coach of the Year and the Hardman Award for Athlete of the Year.
 
  Advance tickets, priced at $35, are available through April 29 with no tickets sold at door.
 
 Tickets are available from banquet chairman Doug Huff in Wheeling; Chris Johnson at Connect-Bridgeport; Michael Minnich at the Clarksburg Exponent-Telegram; Jim Workman at Wally's & Wimpy's Sports Digest; Rich Stevens in Charleston; Jay Bennett at the Parkersburg News-Sentinel; and Gary Fauber at the Beckley Register-Herald.
