BHS Football Standout Donovan Williams Signs Letter of Intent with Glenville State University

By Chris Johnson on February 15, 2025

Bridgeport High School football standout Donovan Williams finalized plans to continue his career at the next level, signing his National Letter of Intent with Glenville State University on Thursday.

The signing ceremony took place at BHS in front of a crowd of family, friends, teammates and coaches.

He won’t be joining the Pioneers alone as teammate Alex Moses also signed his LOI on Thursday.

“When I visited there, it felt like I had a true connection with the coaches,” Williams said. “IIt’s a blessing. That’s one thing I was scared about going to college, not knowing anybody but I have someone that will be beside me the whole way.”

Williams was a Class AAA First Team All-State selection at linebacker for the state champion Indians and was a force on both sides of the ball and was the team’s primary punt returner.

He finished with 59 tackles, 12.0 for a loss, two sacks, two forced fumbles and a fumble recovery. On offense, he caught 12 passes for 358 yards and four touchdowns and scored two touchdowns on the ground. He averaged 13.5 yards per punt return.

Williams excelled no matter what spot the BHS coaching staff put him at and that versatility factored heavily into Glenville State being interested in him.

“They have mentioned playing both defensive end and tight end but I think they are going with defensive end,” said Williams, who in certain situations this season moved up to an edge rusher from his outside linebacker spot. “I’m happy with that, I like that position.”

Williams will also leave BHS as the school’s all-time leader in receiving yards with 810 as well as receiving touchdowns with nine.

“I’m proud that I’m the leading receiver,” Williams said. “I hope somebody breaks it one day but it is fun to be able to say I have a record in high school.”

Williams, who is also a key part of the boys basketball team that is currently 15-1 and ranked No. 1 in the state, plans to major in nursing at Glenville State.
