Morgantown's Brown Repeats as Girls Soccer POTY; Point Pleasant's Pinkerton Wins Boys Award

Morgantown’s Gracie Brown has been named the the Girls Soccer Player of the Year for the second consecutive season and the Boys Player of the Year honor goes to Point Pleasant’s Joey Pinkerton.
Both awards were announced today by the West Virginia Sports Writers Association.
Brown had 26 goals and nine assists during the regular season and led the Mohigans to the Class AAA state championship.
Other players considered were Charleston Catholic forward Molly Messer and midfielder Mia Lough, Philip Barbour midfielder/forwards Arrington Sparks and Braylyn Sparks, Point Pleasant goalkeeper Katie McCutcheon and Weir forward Olivia Baker.
Pinkerton also led his team to a state championship in Class AA-A, the first-ever for the Point Pleasant boys program.
Pinkerton had 18 goals, incluidng three in the state tournament, to go ao along with 13 assists.

Other finalists for the Player of the Year honors were Michael Luechauer (George Washington), Tanner Griffith (Lewis County), Tresz McLeod (Wheeling Park) and Gio Cinco (Charleston Catholic)
Brown and Pinkerton will be honored at the 77th annual Victory Awards Dinner on May 5, 2024 at River City in Wheeling.
