The Grapevine: Hosting a Dinner for Cancer Survivors

By Rosalyn Queen on July 04, 2020 from The Grapevine

On Sunday, July 19, I will be hosting a dinner for cancer survivors at the Uptown Event Center. This dinner has been held annually by the local chapter of the American Cancer Association.  Due to the pandemic the dinner was cancelled and I was given the opportunity to host it for local cancer survivors.

The evening will start with a reception sponsored by Dellallo’s Foods and dinner will be served at 5:30.  The dinner is being sponsored by Brickside, Lane Oil and Gas, McDonalds and the PWA.  Other sponsors will be providing services throughout the evening.  There will be door prizes awarded throughout the evening as well as gifts for those attending.  Lighted topiaries will be used as decorations to honor those victims of cancer.

The purpose of this dinner is to celebrate those individuals who have survived cancer.  It will give individuals the opportunity to exchange their cancer survival experiences Plans have been made for a musical presentation as well as a speaker.

Invitations have been mailed out this week and individuals are encouraged to reply as soon as possible as there will be limited seating due to the social distancing.  Please reply to the number listed on the invitation.

I encourage you all to attend.  This will be an evening of celebration and good food.  I look forward to spending time with each of you And celebrating our survival.   Only those of us who have travelled this journey know the true experience and it is an honor for me to host this event,

Stay healthy and until next week “Now You Have Heard It Through The Grapevine.”

Editor's Note: Pictured, from left, are Deonna Crowe, PWA Secretary; Rosalyn Queen, PWA President; Tori Harper, American Cancer Association manager for Community Development in North Central West Virginia; and Betty Waddy, PWA fundraiser. These volunteers met this past week to gather gifts and materials for the Annual  Cancer Survivors Dinner, that this blog is about, on Sunday, July 19 at 5:30 at the Uptown Event Center in Clarksburg.
