The Grapevine: Lunch with Zenny and Winter Weather

By Connect-Bridgeport Staff on February 27, 2025 from The Grapevine

Well, what do we do when we are confined to our homes because of the weather?  I know there is only so much television that we can watch.  It becomes repetitive after so much.  And really it is depressing with all that is going on in the world.

The answer that I have found is the library.  I want to advise you that the local library has a good selection of big print books, which makes it so much easier to read when you are curled up in your recliner.

The first book that l read was Never Say Never by Danielle Steele.  It was a great story and in the Way that Steele used to write.  It was one of those fairy tale endings that I like.  I am now reading The Last Hope by Susan Elia Macneal. I am sure that this is a novel, but it seems to have a lot of real information from the war in Germany.  It contains a lot of info about Coco Chanel’s involvement, which for some reason I think is true.  I usually do not put a book down when I start it but this is one that I can put aside and go back to it later.  It is also in big print.

I also have two other books which were light hearted and  easy to read.  These books have helped me pass the time.

The flu seems to have hit our home and the doctors say there is not much you can do but stay home, get rest, consume a lot of Vitamin C and stay away from people.  We all have a bad cough and lots of congestion and they advise us to stay up so that it does not develop into pneumonia.

Now is also a good time to catch up on phone calls to friends and if you have transportation schedule a lunch date.  I enjoyed so much having lunch with Zenny Cunanan.  We had so much to catch up on about the old times and especially about our late friend Jeanie Kalaghio (sp).

Just a reminder that we all enjoy a good bowl of soup that warms the soul. A reminder to look in the freezer for those greens we put away last fall to make a warm bowl of minestra.

I guess I have rambled enough about how to get through these cold days.  The one great thing is spring is on its way.

Stay warm and until next , “Now you have heard it through the Grapevine.”
