The Grapevine: Saint John the Baptist and the Statue of the Blessed Mother

By Rosalyn Queen on July 05, 2018 from The Grapevine

Several columns ago I wrote about the bell from the former St. Johns Church being erected on the front lawn of the Immaculate Conception Church.  This past Sunday happened to be the birthday of St. John The Baptist.

For those who might remember, there was a statue of St. John in the front of the Church that was located on Water Street in Clarksburg. For those wondering, that statue now has a home in the vestibule of the Immaculate Conception Church. The statue leaves the Immaculate Conception Church only once a year when it is carried in the Italian Heritage Festival parade.

Many items that originated with St. John's Church were preserved and have found homes in various locations at the Immaculate Conception. They have helped make us previous members of St. John's feel at home at IC.

This week three young men from the IC Parish will be traveling to Zimbabwe with Sister Maria. They will see first hand the schools, missions and orphanages there. Those young men are Nicholas and Nathaniel Palmer and Gabriel Johnson. This will be a lifetime experience for them.

Last week I had a special visit from the Blessed Mother whose statue will now stay in my home for a week. Although I have my own statue, I welcome the opportunity to host this statue in my home with the knowledge that it has visited many homes in our parish. If you are interested in having her in your home please contact Carla Iaquinta at the IC Church.

Although we have had a lot of rain, I think it is good for our gardens. I hope that you are trying to put few plants in pots on your patio. I have a lot of zucchini blooms and I sure hope they produce a few zucchini for my teiala.

Remember it is fair and festival throughout West Virginia.  Make some time so plan on visiting some of these fun local events and support the individuals who put a lot of time in presenting and preparing for them. There is usually a lot of good food and entertainment also available.
Be safe and enjoy the summer and until next week "Now You Have Heard It Through The Grapevine.."
