For the second week in a row, Bridgeport High School remains the top-ranked team in Class AA in the newest MetroNews.com and Charleston Daily Mail Football polls. And despite the fact that the Indians upended another top 10 Class AA team on that team’s home field this past Friday, the Indians didn’t solidify the top spot in one of those polls.
Last week, Bridgeport garnered all nine of the first place votes in the Daily Mail Poll. Although the Tribe only had eight first place votes this week, it’s only due to one ballot not being turned in. Bridgeport’s stranglehold on the top spot with all the votes comes following the 31-6 victory over top-10 ranked Keyser.
In the MetroNews.com poll, Bridgeport had 12 first place votes in last week’s poll. The Tribe also has 12 of the 25 first place votes this week. Wayne maintained its second spot after beating Scott 40-7. Bluefield, which toppled River View (Va.) by a 62-0 score, moved up to No. 3. Ravenswood, one of two Class AA unbeatens, fell to No. 4 despite a 50-6 pasting of Braxton County. Frankfort, the other unbeaten, was idle last week and dropped to No. 5.
The Charleston Daily Mail’s top five includes the same teams in the same order with one exception. Frankfort and Ravenswood are both tied for the No. 4 spot.

Although the polls are looked at by fans, players and others that follow the game, these two polls don’t determine postseason rankings. The WVSSAC power ratings poll, which comes out Tuesday, determines the 16-team playoff field. BHS could move as high as No. 2 in the poll if projections are correct.
