Despite not playing this past Friday, apparently at least one journalist had a change of heart regarding Bridgeport’s football team. The Indians, ranked No. 1 in last week’s MetroNews.com football ratings, went from claiming 15 first place votes to 16 first place votes this week.
The Indians have held the top spot now for several weeks in the MetroNews poll, as well as the Charleston Daily Mail poll, which was not released as of this morning. The top five teams in the MetroNews.com poll remained the same with Wayne at No. 2, Bluefield at No. 3, Frankfort at No. 4 and Ravenswood at No.5. Frankfort at 4-0 is the lone remaining undefeated team in Class AA.
This poll also sets up a top 10 showdown this Friday at East-West Stadium in Marion County. The Indians will visit No. 10 Fairmont Senior. The Polar Bears are 6-2 and are coming off of a 35-27 win over Class AAA Buckhannon-Upshur. FSHS is on a four-game winning streak.
Two other BHS opponents are in the top 10. Keyser, at 6-2, is listed at No. 7, while Robert C. Byrd is in at the No. 9 spot.
Others locally in the top 10 include Clarksburg Notre Dame at the No. 7 spot in Class A, while Doddridge County is at No. 7 in the same poll. The Irish have won six straight ball games. NDHS could cement its postseason position with a win this week against 8-0 and No. 2 Clay-Battelle.
Although the WVSSAC poll is not out until tomorrow, it appears that the Tribe will remain No. 1 in that poll as well. The MetroNews.com poll is based off the votes of radio broadcasters and sports writers from across West Virginia.
