Large Crowd on Hand as City Council Provides First Definitive Details on Indoor Recreation Complex

- Saw Lang read and present a proclamation to HOPE, Inc., in recognition of October being Domestic Violence awareness month
- Recognized elementary students here were among more than 100 that submitted entries for the city’s 2019 calendar. Those on hand were among the 13 chosen to be included after submissions during Bridgeport Municipal Government week. Check back later for photos featuring the winners.
- Reappointed Fred Sartoris, Bridget Furbee and John Stogran to the Bridgeport Development Authority. The terms are for three years.
- Reappointed Jolie Carter to the Bridgeport Planning Commission for a term of three years.
- Saw Christopher “Bart” Sayers sworn in as a sergeant and James “Jimmy” Petroski as a Lieutenant for the Bridgeport Police Department. More on that later on Connect-Bridgeport.
- Consider and approved a new member to the Bridgeport Emergency Services Council in Dr. Sidney Jackson.
I believe the tennis portion will be addressed in the future with the field house. Other than that, it may be possible to use some of the space for basketball and volleyball for tennis. If these are brought to the attention of the City Council members, there may be time to plan for such usage.
As a senior, I would hope that use of the facilities includes seniors' insurance coverage programs like "Silver Sneakers" and others. Personally I would use the pool facilities for laps several times per week to keep in shape. Clarksburg YMCA offers such a program but gas is so expensive for travel there on a regular basis for people on fixed incomes.

Bridgeport apparently prefers to tax everyone an extra 1% for a sports complex that many will never use, rather than providing suitable pay for Former Bridgeport Police Lt. Mike Lemley and his fellow officers. This is unfortunate. Sports are emphasized while academics are largely ignored.

Sounds good, however no indoor tennis...what happened? Still must go to Morgantown to play during winter months for lessons.. Sure would be nice to have a local indoor court.
