ABB Member Spotlight: Marquette Insurance Agency

By Connect-Bridgeport Staff on September 19, 2026

Editor's Note: This segment is generated and shared by the Associated Businesses of Bridgeport. Businesses operating in Bridgeport and which pay business and occupation taxes to the City of Bridgeport are elibible for ABB membership. Dues are $95 per year and include participation in ABB events including Summer Kickoff and Food Truck Festival, Main Street Scarecrows, and Light Up Night. Access a membership form HERE.

This week's ABB Member Spotlight focuses on Marquette Insurance Agency, owned by Doug Marquette.

Tell us a little about your business and what you do.

My business is Marquette Insurance Agency. We do home auto, commercial, and life insurance. It has been in Bridgeport since 2004. We also have an office in Philippi.

How long have you been in business, and what inspired you to get started?

I’ve been in some role in the insurance business since 1979, as an employee with Nationwide until I retired as an employee and became an independent contractor business owner of my Nationwide Agency.

I realized 24 years into my time in the business that I wanted to have the opportunity to own a business and be part of a community.
What do you love most about doing business in Bridgeport?

What I love about owning a business in Bridgeport is why I love Bridgeport. It is the sense of community, solving issues together, everyone pulling the rope in the same direction to make Bridgeport the best place to live and raise a family.

What is your favorite Bridgeport hometown event or tradition, and why?

My favorite hometown event is Light Up Night. I look forward to it every year. ABB works very hard to make it a special night for the community, and we feel honored that the people of our town see it in that light.

What made you decide to become a member of the Association of Bridgeport Businesses (ABB)?

I was a member from the inception. Brad Ford stopped by my office early in 2005 and presented the idea of ABB. It would be a networking opportunity for members, a marketing opportunity, and a way through activities like Light Up Night, Summer Kickoff, and Trick or Treat with the Scarecrows, to give back to the community. I told him I was in from the jump. By the beginning of 2007 I was invited to join the board.

What does being part of ABB and the Bridgeport business community mean to you?

Those three goals I just mentioned are as important today as they were 22 years ago.

1) Networking and finding likeminded business people that have similar business issues as you do.

2) The opportunity to have your business be part of an organization that does so much good for the city.
3) The opportunity it affords my business to give back to the community through our sponsored activities as well as supporting the city leaders of Bridgeport.

Achieving all three of those tenets is what ABB means to me.

What is something people may not know about you or your business?

In addition to ABB leadership, I serve on the Bridgeport Development Authority board, on the Board of the BHS Sports Boosters, and I write stories regarding BHS athletics that get posted to bridgeportindians.com and to my blog, BHS Indians Sports Blog.

If you could tell the Bridgeport community one thing about your business—or encourage them to do one thing to support local businesses—what would it be?

Regarding my business, I believe that I exist to serve my customers. Not only do they get me and my 47 years of insurance experience in Claims, Underwriting, and Sales, they get me when they need me. They aren’t handled by someone three states away that they have never met, they get me. In addition, since they have my cell phone number, they get me when they need me 24/7.
