BHS Softball Teams Begins Sectional Play Monday

By Chris Johnson on April 26, 2024

The Bridgeport High School softball team will begin postseason play on the road Monday.

The Indians (5-17) are the No. 4 seed and will play at No. 1 University at 5 p.m. in the opening round of the Class AAA Region I, Section 2 tournament on Monday. The same day, No. 2 Buckhannon-Upshur will be at home to play No. 3 Preston.

The tournament is double elimination so the winners will meet on Tuesday, and Monday's losers will meet Tuesday in an elimination game.

A sectional champion will be crowned no later than Friday, May 3.

Gracie Knight went 3-for-3 with two RBIs, Kennedy Wolfe drove in a pair of runs and five different BHS players scored at least two runs in a 15-2 win against East Fairmont on Wednesday.

On Thursday, BHS lost to Philip Barbour, 12-0. Addison Veigel had the lone hit for the Indians as Philip Barbour's Avery McDaniel tossed a complete-game one-hit shutout. McDaniel also led the Colts' offense, going 3-for-3, with a home run, double and four RBIs.

The Indians' regular-season finale will be today at Lincoln. Game time is set for 5 p.m.
