Bridgeport Police Address Isolated Weekend Shooting

By Jeff Toquinto on August 15, 2022

Bridgeport Police Chief Mark Rogers has confirmed a shooting took place in the city Saturday afternoon and that it resulted in a fatality.

Rogers emphasized there was no danger to the community.

“There was never a threat to the public at any time during the situation,” said Rogers.

Details are not going to be released on the matter, said Rogers, as it was a mental health situation. He said the investigation has concluded.

“We urge anyone suffering from issues to please seek help,” said Rogers. “Do not hesitate to reach out for help through assistance that is available.”

Rogers added that calling 988 is now a viable option, which is a national crisis and suicide lifeline.

Bridgeport Police and Bridgeport Fire responded to the scene. The West Virginia Medical Examiner’s Office also was on the scene.
