Bridgeport among Emergency Crews at Structure Fire

By Jeff Toquinto on January 29, 2025

The Bridgeport Fire Department was among the first responders alerted to a structure fire on Tuesday morning in Harrison County. The city staff showed up as part of mutual aid as the blaze took place in the first due area of the Spelter Volunteer Fire Department.

At 6:07 a.m. Jan. 28, the call came in for a structure fire. The blaze was on O’Neill Hill Road and the one-story residential structure was fully involved with a person inside.

Initial units were able to remove the individual. That person was taken from the scene by the Harrison County Emergency Squad. Healthnet, according to the Harrison County 911 media log, was called but did not end up on the scene.

Bridgeport Fire Chief Phil Hart said the Bridgeport Fire Department sent a pumper truck and manpower to assist on the scene. Before 9 a.m., Bridgeport Fire that responded had returned. Other units were also leaving the scene prior to that.

Along with Spelter and Bridgeport, the Reynoldsville, Nutter Fort, Spelter, and Mount Clare Fire Departments were on the scene. The 911 log also said the West Virginia Division of Highways assisted.

The status of that person taken from the scene was unknown. Hart said all of the Bridgeport staff returned unharmed.
