City Faces in Different Places

By Michelle Duez on September 21, 2014 from City Faces

Bridgeport is abundant with many local businesses.  Lotus MacDowell is a local resident and business owner. Please take a moment to meet my friend Lotus.

How long have you lived in Bridgeport? Lotus moved to Bridgeport in 1979.

Where are you originally from? She was born in Boston and moved to Morgantown when she was five.  She is a 1972 graduate of Morgantown High School.  She attended WVU, obtaining a degree in Art.

Children? Lotus is the mother of three boys.  Cody, 27, owns and operates a food truck named Hash Browns & New Grounds; Austin, 25, works at Thrasher Engineering as in inspector.  He’s currently obtaining his degree in Civil Engineering from Fairmont State University; and Kaelin, 18, attends St. James School in Hagerstown, Maryland.  He is on the Cross Country team at St. James.

What is your favorite color? Lime green, purple and black

Where do you work? Lotus own and operates Artworks in Bridgeport.  She is known for her paintings of local scenes.

Favorite Bridgeport spot? Oral Lake

Favorite WV spot outside of Bridgeport?  Morgantown holds great memories and will always be near and dear to her heart.

Favorite place outside of WV? Italy because of its art and architecture steeped into the Italian lifestyle.  There is a very natural sense and as an artist, Lotus appreciates the light in Italy.   She has several paintings from Italian venues that came from spontaneous inspirations while visiting the country.  The food is also wonderful.

Best childhood memory?  Going to see her fraternal grandparents in Ireland and her maternal grandparents in Nova Scotia are fond memories.  Lotus has a big family with fifty first cousins. She has a family reunion in Nova Scotia she is looking forward to attending next year.

Favorite musical group?  Lotus enjoys listening to Jazz, Blues, Rap and Classical.  She likes Stevie Ray Vaughn, Van Morrison and LuCray.

Pets? One cat named Tiger.

Interesting fact about you? Lotus raced Motocross when she was in college.

Hobbies? Gardening, designing and sewing clothing, flipping houses, renovating apartments for the Mission and cooking and entertaining friends are her hobbies.
