City Faces in Different Places

By Michelle Duez on January 25, 2015 from City Faces

This week's City Face is a long-term resident who has been able to make a life in Bridgeport and she is a recent newlywed.  Please take a moment to meet my friend, Erica Byrd.

How long have you lived in Bridgeport? Erica has lived in Bridgeport for almost twenty years.  She is a 2005 BHS graduate.   She also attended WVU, graduating in 2010 with a Masters in Elementary Education.

Where are you originally from? Before moving to Bridgeport, she lived in Clarksburg.

Are you married? Yes, to Chris Byrd.  They were married on July 26, 2014 at Pete Dye Golf Club in Bridgeport.  Chris is a 2002 BHS graduate.  He also attended WVU, graduating in 2010 with a degree in Mechanical Engineering.  He is now employed by EuropTec in Clarksburg.

Children? None yet, although she has a classroom full every day.

What is your favorite color?  Purple

Where do you work? Erica is a first grade teacher at Simpson Elementary.

Favorite Bridgeport spot?  Erica likes to take her dog for walks at Hinkle and Deegan Lakes.

Favorite WV spot outside of Bridgeport? In the winter, she enjoys the beauty and outdoor recreation at Timberline Resort.  In the fall, it’s Morgantown for WVU football games.

Favorite place outside of WV? Erica is an avid beach lover. Her new favorite place outside of WV is Hawaii.  She and Chris went to Maui and the big island of Hawaii for their honeymoon.  She looks forward to the day they are able for a return visit.

Favorite restaurant? She loves Italian food, Oliverio’s Ristorante is her favorite.

Best childhood memory?  She enjoyed her family vacations to Myrtle Beach, South Carolina every summer.

Favorite musical group? She mixes it up on satellite radio and listens to a wide variety of stations.

Pets?  She has three pets. A dog, Izzy, a three year old Pomeranian; Ms. Cleo, a 14 year old black cat; and Manny, a two year old white and gray cat.

Hobbies?  Erica likes to shop, spend time with my family and friends, and travel to new places.

Interesting fact about you?  She attended Simpson Elementary for fourth and fifth grade in the tower that was recently torn down.  In 2012, her first classroom was located in the tower. Also her mother, Kathy Romano, is a teacher at Simpson Elementary.
