City Faces in Different Places

By Michelle Duez on September 06, 2015 from City Faces

I'm a very happy gal, as our son Jerg, who was our German exchange student for a year, came to visit for two weeks.  Hi younger brother, Veit, came too.  Many of you know Jerg as Joe.  I am re-running his interview in his honor.  Jerg is now in 12th grade in Germany and will graduate after 13th grade.  In Germany, school is not as uniform as ours.  There are three different types of school and not everyone graduates after 12th grade like our schools.  Jerg graduated high school after 10th grade and now attends a business and economics college.  After college, he will attend a university  His brother Veit is in a different program and will graduate after 12th grade. Joe still loves Chick Fil A.  It's the first place we went to eat upon his arrival.  Please take a moment to meet Jerg:

If you ever have the opportunity to host an exchange student, I highly recommend the experience.  I can refer you to the local FLAG program, Foreign Links Around the Globe, which is the program Jerg came to America with this year.  Click here for more information on FLAG.  There are also other programs, such as Rotary and Youth For Understanding.  Please click here to learn more about their experience.

Our family was presented with an opportunity to host an exchange student this summer and we jumped at the chance.  It has turned out to be such a blessing.  The initial commitment was just for a few weeks but it has turned into a year-long stay and we are loving every minute of the experience!  Jerg, or Joe as we call him, is a fantastic kid.  He fits right into our family and goes with the flow.   We are learning about Germany and he is embracing and learning American culture.  Please take a moment to meet my German son, Jerg Riethmueller.
