City Faces in Different Places

By Michelle Duez on January 24, 2016 from City Faces

Please take a moment to meet this week’s City Face Nalene Bice:

How long have you lived in Bridgeport? Nalene moved to Bridgeport in 1985.

Where are you originally from?  Nalene is from Clarksburg.  She is a Washington Irving High School graduate.

Are you married? Yes, to Gerald Bice in 2005.  Gerald is a retired banker.  He worked at Shinnston Bank and Wes Banco.  He graduated from Bridgeport High School.  He enjoys being a farmer.

Children? Nalene has five children.  Traci Davis, is a WIHS graduate.  She is an ophthalmologist in Charleston, South Carolina.  Todd Davis is a BHS graduate and works at Kroger.  Mark Bice lives is Smyrna, Tennessee and is in hotel management.  He is married to Krissi and they have three children.  Jerri Bice lives in Savannah, Georgia and works in Atlanta as a floral designer.  Matt Bice is a BHS graduate and works for Mon Power.  He is married to Alicia and has three children – Jacob is a junior at BHS, Leigh is in preschool and Olivia is two.

What is your favorite color? Black

Where do you work? Nalene retired after thirty-five years working retail management with Stone and Thomas.  She now is working her dream “retirement” job at the Country Peddler.  She was a volunteer at the UHC gift shop in between her two jobs.

Favorite Bridgeport spot?  City Park and Compton Parks are her favorites because they are wonderful for walking.

Favorite WV spot outside of Bridgeport?  Nalene’s family spent a lot of time of Tygart Lake and Grafton Dam when she was a child.   She enjoyed boating and spending time with her family.

Favorite place outside of WV? Charleston, South Carolina is her favorite because of its quaintness, the beach and her daughter lives in the historical district.  Savannah, Georgia is a close second.

Favorite restaurant?  Muriales

Best childhood memory?  Nalene lived in Newport, Ohio and she fondly remembers coming to Bridgeport to visit.  Her step-mother, Joyce Miller, taught her how to twirl.  She returned to Ohio and tried out to be a high school twirler and was selected.

Pets? One dog named Patton – Patton is half Chow and half Lab.

Hobbies?  Crossword puzzles and adult coloring books are her hobbies.  She also works out at the YMCA doing Zumba twice a week and working out on the machines three times a week.

Interesting fact about you?  Nalene is a city girl that has now transitioned into a country girl.  She enjoys living and helping on their farm with her husband Gerald.  Gerald used to raise cattle and now raises goats.
