By Michelle Duez on July 17, 2016 from City Faces

Please take a moment to meet this week’s City Face Kym Burton, sponsored by Higinbotham & Higinbotham:

How long have you lived in Bridgeport? Kym has lived in Bridgeport almost twenty-nine years.

Where are you originally from? Kym grew up in Charleston.  She is a Stonewall Jackson High School graduate.  She obtained her degree in Physical Education and Health K-12 at the University of Charleston and her Master’s degree in Reading K-12 from WVU.

Are you married? Yes, to Don Burton.  They were married at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Charleston in 1983.  They met at the University of Charleston.  Don is originally from Winter Park, Florida and came to West Virginia to attend Morris Harvey College, which later became the University of Charleston.

Children? Kym and Don have three children.  Grant, 29, is a physical therapy assistant at Bridgeport Physical Therapy.  He helps coach track and volleyball at BHS.  Grant is a 2005 BHS graduate.  Sarah, 27, is a Makoplasty product specialist for Stryker in Ft. Lauderdale, Florida.  She is a 2007 BHS graduate. JJ,29,  lives in his Las Vegas with his wife Loretta.  He is a teacher in at UNLV.  He is a 2005 BHS graduate.

What is your favorite color? Blue

Where do you work? Harrison County Schools - Kym taught reading for twelve years, has been a literacy coach for middle and high school teachers and she now teaches middle school health.

Favorite Bridgeport spot? Hinkle and Deegan Lakes Trail

Favorite WV spot outside of Bridgeport? Oglebay Park in Wheeling is Kym’s favorite place in West Virginia.  She appreciates its beauty and landscape.

Favorite place outside of WV? Charleston, South Carolina is her pick outside of West Virginia due to its rich history and beautiful nature foliage and flowers.

Favorite restaurant? Julio's Cafe because of its delicious food and nostalgic decor.

Best childhood memory? Kym didn’t have to think long to share that spending Friday nights with her grandmother is a fond memory.  They would go to the local store to buy all the fixings to make ice cream sundaes.  Getting them home and creating their own sundaes was special and delicious.

Favorite musical group? Kym listens to whatever her radio is tuned into at the time.

Pets? The family has two dogs – Phoenix, a Doberman, and Draco, a mutt.

Hobbies? Gardening, reading and walking

Interesting fact about you? Figure skating has always been one of Kym's passions.  She grew up traveling to Pittsburgh and beyond to skate and attend skating camps.  She taught figure skating for eight years and will always enjoy following the sport.
