City Faces in Different Places

By Connect-Bridgeport Staff on June 01, 2014 from City Faces

Blog sponsored by Bad Lizard Granite

Bridgeport is a wonderful place to raise a family.  It's also home to some big business.  This week's City Face has a wonderful work life - family balance. Please take a moment to meet my friend Jim Christie, Jr.

How long have you lived in Bridgeport?
This is Jim’s third time living in Bridgeport.  He and his family have been back here for 4 years with a total of 16 years in Bridgeport for Jim.

Where are you originally from?
Born in Virginia but raised in Bridgeport and graduated from BHS in 1991.  After graduating from WVU with his Landscape Architecture degree, Jim and his wife moved to Vail, Colorado.  After over a decade out west, they moved back to Bridgeport in 2010.

Are you married?
Jim married his high school sweet heart, Beth Christie (Sokoloski).  Beth is originally from Greensburg, PA.  She went to Latrobe Sr. High until the end of her Junior year, then moved to Bridgeport in April of 1989.  Jim and Beth were married in State College, Pennsylvania, June of 1998.

Children?
Maizze, 9 – heading into 5th grade and Gabby, 7, on her way to 3rd grade.

Where do you work?
The Thrasher Group where he is a Landscape Architect/Planner

Favorite Bridgeport spot?
The block they live on.  They have great neighbors and several kids in the neighborhood.  There is always something going on.

Favorite WV spot outside of Bridgeport?
Tucker County to go fly fishing, skiing or hiking.

Favorite place outside of WV?
That is a toss-up.  Colorado where they lived for 12 years and where their girls were born is his favorite place in the US and Argentina is his favorite place outside of the US.

Favorite restaurant?
The Wonder Bar

Best childhood memory?
There’s not just one!  Riding bikes like wild kids all over Bridgeport, all day (the good old days), or the road trips that he went on with his family.  Those are the fun stories and memories they talk and laugh about when they all get together.

Favorite musical group?
Jim listens to multiple genres - Grateful Dead, ACDC, Muddy Waters and Jerry Douglas are among his favorites.

Pets?
Jim and his family have two dogs.  A Great Pyrenees named Nan and a Border Collie/Flat Coat Retriever mix named Mabel.  They also foster for Pet Helpers, Inc. so there are always extra furry friends at Camp Christie that they are trying to find the right home for.  They have successfully found homes for 28 dogs in the past year.

Hobbies?
Jim is very much into the outdoors and is always hiking, skiing and/or fly fishing.

Interesting fact about you?
Jim has designed destination resorts in Argentina, India, Costa Rica, Mexico, Canada and the US.
