Editor's Note: One of the city's longest serving employees, Bridgeport Fire Chief Phil Hart, retired during the 2025 calendar year. Hart, who spent decades with the department, began at a time when there were limited employees and equipment. Today, it is one of the top fire departments in the state. And, in a two-part "top story," his replacement was also announced, and is a familiar name. Deputy Chief Greg Pigg was promoted to the spot shortly before Hart's last days.
