The auction of one of Harrison County's older businesses - the Greenbrier Restaurant and Motel - took place Tuesday with the winning bidder spending nearly half a million dollar. When Joe R. Pyle Auctions finally hit the gavel and yelled "sold," the price for the restaurant and motel that has 38 rooms was $445,000.
The person placing the winning bid is one that is likely known by many in Bridgeport, Harrison County, and North Central West Virginia. According to an official with the Joe R. Pyle Auctions, the purchaser of the property is Randy Buzzo.
Buzzo is a successful businessman in the region who owns the Pete Dye Golf Club just on the outskirts of Bridgeport. He also is the owner of John Howard Subaru in Monongalia County.
The businesses have served Harrison County, the surrounding area and travelers for almost 45 years. The motel, as noted, features 38 rooms, while the restaurant has seating for nearly 80 individuals.
Generations of families have had a meal or drink - and many times both - at the restaurant situated in the fork of the road between Nutter Fort and Clarksburg. It has been host to many parties, gatherings, festive moments, and a general place of social gatherings approaching nearly half a century.
There was no information on plans Buzzo has for the building.
