From Football to Family Man; BHS Alum Tim Lindsey Celebrates Life Post Playing Field

By Trina Runner on January 25, 2015

When Tim Lindsey attended Bridgeport High School, he excelled both academically and athletically.  His vision included a future at WVU, potentially going to medical school, and, of course, football.  What he could not have imagined, however, is that within 10 years of his journey, he would not only have a career behind him that included stops in the National Football League, but would also be an entrepreneur, a husband and a father to two little ones who are following in his footsteps.

“It all began in Bridgeport,” said Lindsey, who credits his family, coaches and teammates in his hometown for his success.  His dedication both on and off the field led to a full athletic scholarship at West Virginia University, where he was the best long snapper in the Big East and a stalwart for the Mountaineer special teams.  Not only a standout on the field, Lindsey made the Athletic Directors Academic Honor Roll repeatedly while attending WVU.

Following the lead of his older brother, Donnie, Lindsey majored in exercise physiology, where he found a passion for fitness.  He won the Coaches Contribution Award, the Tom Nickolich Memorial Award and the Ira E. Rodgers Award, all given for leadership, attitude, and effort.  Those skills would serve him well as he look to have a long career with the NFL, which included signing contracts with the Washington Redskins, Atlanta Falcons, Seattle Seahawks and the UFL’s Hartford Colonials.

After his career ended due to the diagnosis of an autoimmune disorder, Lindsey saw another opportunity to stay involved with athletes and fitness. His focus shifted from going to medical school to teaching people how to avoid doctors by taking care of their bodies.  In 2009, he opened Certified Fitness Trainers, a gym with about 10 clients and Lindsey being the only trainer.  His vision was bigger than that.

In true Lindsey style, he researched ways to grow his business without sacrificing the quality of the fitness experience.  Featured in Fitness Trainer magazine, Lindsey was one of the first in the area to utilize mobile scheduling. This technology tool allowed him to build his client list without being bogged down by bookwork.  In 2013, the vision was becoming a reality as he expanded the gym and renamed it, Complete Fitness Training.

Located in Morgantown, the gym takes a unique approach to fitness. There are no treadmills or machines present.

“We evaluate how people move and create a plan for any weaknesses they may have.  Our goal is pain-free fitness and increasing function in the real world,” said Lindsey.

Because of his experience with professional trainers, Lindsey is able to bring a whole new level of skill to the client.

“Twenty years ago, fitness was just exercise.  Our gym addresses changes in society and increases fitness levels from every angle,” he said.

His background in science plays a large part as well.  All those years of studying how the body works has paid off as he is able to adapt training theories and strategies in ways that truly benefit the individual body.

Now married to his wife, Casey, Lindsey is living the American dream.  He owns a successful business, has a supportive extended family, has the opportunity to do what he loves for a living and, most importantly, gets to be a dad.

“Being a parent is the single best thing I have ever done,” said Lindsey.  “My five-year-old daughter can already outdo most adults on push-ups, lunges, and squats and my three-year-old son is close behind.  Fitness has enabled us to enjoy a great life and truly appreciate all we have been given.”
