Healthy Faces: Meet Kristi Goode

So, tell us a little about yourself...
Hi! I’m Kristi Goode. I grew up in East Bank, WV and I moved to Bridgeport with my husband Chris, over 14 years ago. We landed here when Chris became Medical Director in the Emergency Department at United Hospital Center. I hold a Bachelor of Science in Nursing but have been inactive the last several years while raising my two boys. Colby (17) is a senior at Bridgeport High School and Kaden (14) is an 8th grader at Heritage Christian School.
 
What are your hobbies?
I love anything to do with cooking, nutrition, health, and movement. I’m always looking for ways to improve my health and wellness habits. As a family we love snow skiing, biking, hiking, walking with our dog, Duke, and spending time in Snowshoe, WV.
 
How did your health journey begin?
My health and wellness journey began after 5 years of dealing with neck and back tightness. I turned to looking into how food could be affecting my body. After eliminating dairy and gluten from my diet, I finally got to the bottom of what was keeping me from feeling my best. I completed the 21 Day Sugar Detox program and found that sugar was also one of the causes of my chronic inflammation, along with the dairy and gluten. I’m now a believer in healing our bodies with whole foods because I feel the result.
What do you do for a living?
I currently enjoy working one on one with clients to meet their individual needs. I have expanded my nutrition education by becoming a certified nutrition coach through Precision Nutrition, and I’m also a certified Transformational Lifestyle Coach. I help to guide clients in reaching their nutrition goals through focusing on the whole person and coaching to their individual needs. I also assist clients with “self-sabotage” and the “all or mothing” mentality.
 
I’m on the steering committee for Healthy Bridgeport. I assist with posting healthy recipes on the app and blog as well as posting tips and tricks for a healthier lifestyle within the private Facebook page. Helping others to find a healthy sustainable lifestyle is my passion. Ihelp my clients to eat better & become more active so they can stop dieting & have more energy.
 
What is your favorite sef help book?
I haven’t read many self-help books recently, except ‘Atomic Habits’ by James Clear. In the past I’ve read a few of Stephen Covey’s books, ‘The 7 Habits of Highly Effective People’.  I have taken a nutrition course and a coaching course these past two years that has required a lot of reading, and that has been so much fun for me.
 
What's your favorite healthy meal?
A favorite meal for me would include chicken thighs and vegetables or anything with eggs!
 
What is your favorite workout?
Just within the year I began resistance and weight training. I have really enjoyed it. And just recently I started creating my own workouts at home. I have finally figured out, at 45 years of age, that building muscle is important!  Building muscle is great for accelerating the process of fat loss and increasing your metabolism. In the past, I was only focused on cardio.
 
How do you work health and fitness into your lifestyle?
Fitting health and wellness into my lifestyle has been easy. It has happened over time and has just become a daily habit. It’s not motivation. It’s the actions that I’ve taken that lead to creating a habit that has become part of my daily routine.
 
What motivational quotes do you like?
I have a few motivational quotes to share! “Consistency is key.” “Progress over perfection”. “There is no such thing as failure, you either get the result you want, or the lesson learned”. And, Stephen Covey’s, “Begin with the end in mind."
 
What are some lttle habits one can easily implement to jumpstart a healthy lifestyle?
There are several ways to get started upon your health and wellness journey. Determining your goal is most important. You should ask yourself, “what do I want?” From there you can set small actions to start daily. I always encourage others to drink water and make sure they’re hydrated. If you’re starting on a fitness journey, set your clothing out the night before. Make a plan and schedule that workout into your day. But most importantly, just get started!
