The Bridgeport Farmers Market would like to wish a happy and healthy Father’s Day to all the Dads out there! As a Dad myself I can
think of nowhere I would rather spend the day than at the Market. Now if I could just get someone to come out and help me setup tents and tables this morning…anyone? That’s OK, this way I’ll get to be first in line at the Bridgeport Conference Center’s special Father’s Day at the Market brunch. Read on for more info on that.
First off this week we have some special musicians under the Music Tent. Annie Neely and David Kirkpatrick along with their friend Wayne Woods will be performing some good, old down-home music. It’s what they refer to as “blues-grass” which is a pretty apt description. Annie sings and plays the Tennessee flat-top box while David plays bass and Wayne adds some tasty banjo and guitar licks. These folks are native West Virginians who have been living and playing in Nashville for the past few years. They’ve recently come back to the area and after hearing them play today I think you’ll join me in hoping they stay around for a while.
Also today we will be featuring a special Father’s Day edition Chef’s Demo as Market vendor Chef Bear, of Chef Bear Bowls, will be teaming up with his daughter, Leah, to prepare some homemade sausage sandwiches. Well, actually they’ll be kicked up hot dogs with toppings made of local items purchased at the Market. Take it from me; Leah’s the true brains behind this outfit. Good thing Bear was paying attention that one day in high school shop class when they were going over the proper operation of a lathe…just kidding, of course.
And, as I alluded to in the opening, the Conference Center will be grilling up some of Dad’s favorite things. BBQ Baby Back Ribs and Sausage Hoagies are some of this Dad’s favorite things anyway. Did I mention that there are three choices of sausage? I didn’t? Well, you can get classic Hot Italian, a German Beer Brat, or that All-American take on the former, a Cheesy Brat. Is there anything we Americans won’t stuff with cheese? Wait, don’t answer that. This is a family-friendly blog after all.
Until next week, Stay Fresh!
