WDTV reported that a man involved Tuesday afternoon in a barricade situation near Summersville has died, according to the Nicholas County Sheriff’s Office.
Deputies were serving a mental hygiene warrant on the man, 36, in the 1000 block of Byron Road when the incident happened.
According to a news release from the sheriff’s office, the man fired shots at officers, and officers returned fire and obtained cover by leaving the home.
Along the Nicholas County Sheriff’s Office, West Virginia State Police, the Summersville Police Department, Richwood Police, Natural Resources Police and EMS crews were all on scene. Multiple statewide media sources are reporting that the West Virginia State Police is handling the investigation.
