Off the Shelf: Art Events
By Angela Spatafore on April 15, 2026
Did you know the library has a place dedicated to local artists?
Next time you visit us, be sure to stop by the couch to the left of the computers and check out the Artist Spotlight.
A new artist goes up every three months.
Anyone can sign up for a turn in the Spotlight, and we encourage artists of all mediums to participate.
In the past, we have showcased quilted fabric art, drone photography, woven art, acrylic paintings, and more.
Artists under 18 are also allowed to participate with permission from a parent or caregiver.
This Spotlight season we are showcasing art from one of our fan-favorite events, Brush Hour!
It is our monthly acrylic painting group for adults that meets one Monday a month from 5:30-6:30 p.m.
Each month we provide a theme and an example you can use as inspiration for your own painting, or we also encourage you to paint something else if the provided prompt does not match your style.
You also do not need to be a master painter, and that is part of the fun!
You have one hour to sit and paint on a tiny canvas with a group of people of varying skill levels, and it is always a good time.
We have several paintings all done by our library staff at Brush Hour in the Artist Spotlight.
Be sure to take a look, and if you like what you see and want to join in on the fun, you can register for Brush Hour on our website at https://www.bplwv.org/events.
If you are interested in getting your art into the Artist Spotlight, please reach out to us at library@bridgeportwv.gov or by calling us at 304-842-8248.
We do have guidelines available for what is and is not eligible for the Spotlight on our website at https://www.bplwv.org/artist-spotlight.
There you can also view all the past artists.
All spots for 2026 have been claimed, but we are always accepting artists, so please do not hesitate to reach out!
