Off the Shelf: Library Holiday Events

By Angela Spatafore on November 19, 2025 from Off the Shelf

It is hard to believe, but December is just around the corner, which means so are the holidays! The library is celebrating the season with special holiday-themed events and programs in addition to our regularly scheduled events. We have something going on just about every day of the week throughout the entire year! Be sure to check out our full event calendar on our website: https://www.bplwv.org/events

To kick off the holiday season at the library, Bridgeport High School’s Orchestra will perform on Thursday, December 11 at 6:00 PM. The Orchestra’s winter concert in the Children’s Area is a long-standing tradition at the library, and we are always grateful to host our community’s talented students. If you can’t catch the Orchestra or want another musical experience, the Bridgeport High School Jazz Ensemble will be performing the following week.

Join us on Wednesday, December 17 at 5:00 PM in the Children’s Area. Registration for both Bridgeport High School concerts is not required, but we recommend those who want reminders leading up to the event to register on our website. We have one more musical event for you. Our local harpist, Suzanne Stewart, will be returning on Saturday, December 20th around 12:00 PM. She will be set up in the front lobby to play her harp while you browse and use the library. Limited seating is available for those who want to sit and enjoy the music. Keep the chilly weather at bay this winter by coming to share your traditions with your community!

This month for Cultural Connections, we're inviting patrons to come and talk about different winter holiday customs they have. Whether it's opening a new set of pajamas on Christmas Eve or gathering around a fire and swapping stories of the year gone by, we invite you to come and share with friends and family at the library. We'll provide roasted chestnuts and hot chocolate. Patrons of all ages can bring individually wrapped treats, stories, or photos about their own winter traditions.

Our monthly program, Cultural Connections, will be exploring winter traditions on Monday, December 15th at 4:00 PM. Finally, Santa will be returning to the library on Tuesday, December 16th from 3:30-4:30 PM in the Children’s Area. Stop by to meet Santa! Opportunities for photos are available.

We hope to see you soon at the library!
