Off the Shelf: Library's Summer Brochure is Available

By Angela Spatafore on May 27, 2026

Stop by the library or come see us at one of our upcoming outreach events to pick up our summer brochure! We have a packed schedule for the summer season as we get ready for summer reading. Next week we will cover this year’s summer reading program in more detail, but as a reminder, Unearth a Story will run from June 13 through July 25. Fans of dinosaurs, prehistory, and geology will especially want to tune in next week for more details. For now, I want to cover just some of the fun things we are doing in early June.

On June 1st, children between the ages of 0-5 and their caregivers can join us at 4:00 PM for Creativity Corner. Every month children get the chance to create a new piece of art. June’s craft is sandpaper art. You will get to build a 3D castle out of sand paper. This is an exciting opportunity for our youngest patrons and their caregivers to explore the wonders of creating art!

We are hosting another one of our very popular yoga classes for adults after the kids’ craft on June 1st. Bring your yoga mats to the Event Space at 5:30 PM. Instructors from That Yoga Studio in White Hall will be here to guide you through a one-hour yoga session for beginners. The class walks you through gentle movements and breathwork. If the evening class does not work for you. We will have an afternoon class on Monday, June 8th at 12:00 PM.

If you feel like you need another or different kind of workout, we are starting our newest wellness class on Monday, June 8th immediately following yoga at 1:30 PM. Join us for Gentle Joints: Strength Training 101 taught by Stephanie Bean, a NASM-certified personal trainer and owner of Bridgeport In-Home Fitness. This class covers the basics strength training for adults and is designed for all ability levels. As the name suggests, the class is meant to be gentle and ease you into the world of strength training.

We are breaking out the 3D pens in the Makerspace for 3Doodles for ages 6-13 on Wednesday, June 3rd at 3:00 PM. With a 3D pen, you can bring your doodles off the page in three dimensions. This class is great for beginner and experienced doodlers alike. We provide a sheet full of ideas to help you get started.

Teens and adults are invited to come to the library at 5:30 PM on June 3rd for their own craft night. Craft Collective is our evening craft program for older teens and adults. We are learning how to fold paper stars, which we will use to fill a jar. The stars are red, white, and blue, so this craft is patriotic as well as fun!

To view a full list of upcoming events, be sure to check out our website at bplwv.org/events. Many of the programs covered in this issue of Off the Shelf require registration. Keep your eyes out for the next issue—a special look into Unearth a Story, Summer Reading 2026!
