Off the Shelf: Looking at Library's Online Collections

By Sharon Saye on October 30, 2019 from Off the Shelf

The library’s online collections are often the secret gems of our services.  Some are tremendously popular while others don’t seem to attract the attention they deserve.

Access Video on Demand and Just for Kids Access Video are two tremendous resources that library users seem not to notice.  Access Video on Demand has 38,737 titles from such companies as PBS, HBO, BBC, National Geographic, A&E, the History Channel and the Biography Channel.

There are documentaries and movies, Shakespeare plays and Broadway musicals, technology survival skills, and exercise videos.  They are available 24/7 and all you need is your library card barcode.

Just for Kids Access Video has over 6000 videos including everything from Sesame Street to Reading Rainbow to Daniel Tiger’s Neighborhood and the Berenstain Bears.  Just enter your 10-digit library card number.

The library also has several other services which offer videos, concerts and British broadcasting.

IndieFlix is a streaming movie service that offers access to pop culture favorites, box office hits, award-winning feature films, documentaries, and shorts.

Stingray Qello is the world’s largest collection of full-length concerts and music documentaries streamed on-demand to just about any digital device.

And Acorn TV brings world-class mysteries, dramas, and comedies from Britain and beyond to library patrons through a streaming video service to any Web-connected device.

These last three services are available from RB Digital which also provides digital magazines, eBooks and eAudiobooks.  First time users will be asked to create an account.  An email address and password are required.

You can access almost all the library’s digital services from youseemore.com/bridgeport.  Across the bottom of the main page are the four most used services: WVDELI, RB Digital, Access 360 and Hoopla.  There are also buttons down the right side of the page including Media, Homework, Resources, etc.  The library has a brochure with all the digital resources and exact instructions on how to access each one available from the library.
